Putting your welfare first!

I am running in this election for the role of Welfare Executive because I care about making a difference. I want to be part of a progressive Students' Union that listens to the views of students. Your views will be crucial to the changes that I want to implement.

1.      Period Poverty. #PeriodProudDSU is a campaign I have been working on since learning that 35% of women in Leicester are affected by period poverty, and Leicester is in the top 5 worst cities in the UK for period poverty. I would like to work to find a solution to this, as the student population is a big part of the community in Leicester. I would also want to work on raising awareness of other issues surrounding menstrual cycles.

2.      Childcare support. Are childcare grants enough? Do students with children receive enough support? Other universities seem to offer more support, such as childcare on campus. I do not believe anybody should be held back from further education due to starting a family. Do you?

3.      Advice sessions. Creating more awareness of current advice, support and facilities at the SU. I want to make this advice much more accessible by taking advantage of the new ‘Zen Zone’ created by the current Executives. I plan on introducing more group advice sessions, drop in sessions. These will be focused around mental health and sexual health.

Being the current chair of the welfare zone and Volunteering Opportunities Frontrunner, has shown me exactly what the role entails, and from working with RAG to representing you, I look forward to all that this role has to offer.

Thank you for taking the time to read my manifesto, A vote for me is a vote for your welfare!
