Abeera Qayam

Hello

My name is Abeera Qayam and I am an international student from Pakistan. I am a second year Law and Criminal Justice student.

Coming from a country where it is a constant struggle to be at the same level as men, I am a strong believer of women empowerment and it’s awareness. During my time in school and college, I was part of an NGO which specifically worked for women safety, health and support. Not only did I learn about the difficulty faced by women of every class but also how they tackled it and what was needed in that process. That made me realize how essential it is for women to have that kind of support and community where they are comfortable to talk about things they deal with on daily basis and continue to do so to achieve certain goals of their life and career.

I aim to bring women of all colours together under one roof where we can create a safe and confidential environment for them all to share their stories and build each other's confidence. This can only be done if we are willing to look out for each other no matter what the differences are. And be understanding towards each other.

I have a few ideas for next year such as women business related workshops, physical activities such as learning techniques to protect oneself and building strength, improvising one’s skill through different ways, working on self-image and believing in ourselves through certain activities , working on how to portray one’s thought in a suitable manner.

I am willing to work for it if I get a chance to.

Thank you.
