Sue Litchfield

I am 42 years old and I originally come from Belfast, but I am now living in Melton Mowbray with my husband. I am studying Health and Wellbeing in Society and I am in my second year. I have Asperger's syndrome, Borderline Personality Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, Type 1 Diabetes, Fibromyalgia, Osteoarthritis, Gastroparesis, Irritable Bowell Syndrome, Diabetic Neuropathy, Diabetic Retinopathy, and Carpel Tunnel Syndrome. Most of my conditions are regarded as invisible disabilities, but I don't feel disabled and I try very hard not to let my conditions define me or stop me from achieving all that I want to do. If I was to be elected as Disabled Students' Representative I would hope to inspire and encourage all students who deal with any kind of illness, disability or condition to be more than their diagnosis, but to not be afraid to speak out and to educate others. I would like to create an online forum where we can support and connect with each other and I would also like to arrange events to both educate others and to display our various talents so that they can see and experience the ability in disability. I hope to be a friendly face, who is understanding, compassionate and approachable, and ultimately I would like to be a voice for students who need their concerns addressed and actions to be put in place such as improving accessibility on campus and creating a hub that is disabled friendly for students to feel accepted and worthy. If you feel in anyway inspired by any of this then please vote for me.
