We need to talk…

Sorority:
The term sorority refers to brotherhood among women with regard to social gender issues. Sorority is a term derived from the Latin soror meaning sister. It is used to mention the solidarity that exists between women, especially in patriarchal societies.

I’m Angie, a second-year International Relations student, I’m originally from Spain. During my time at university I serve as a Course Representative and a Student Ambassador. I have experience as a member of a feminist association back in my home country, creating informative campaigns, studying the topic of rights, equality and building a safe community for women. We are all different and each story matters.

I want to create new initiatives to raise awareness because we need to discuss teenage pregnancy, to give information about abortion and about how contraceptive methods affect us for the good and for the bad; we need to talk about women’s options, about sexual violence, verbal abuse and sexual health. We need to talk freely about the period and our bodies, we need to talk about consent and about societal pressures affecting women, with the goal of educating all.

There are more than 100 nationalities in the Students’ Union and I’ll make sure that every woman feels included in this University, no matter your nationality, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation. I want to create a safe space to empower other women to share their experiences, ideas and observations.

There is an enormous path to follow to achieve equality, a lot to be done, and a big responsibility in every human to walk towards a respectful and more equal society.

Thank you for peace and feminism.
