Irene Ferri

First and foremost, I would like to introduce myself. I'm Irene Ferri, an international first year student attending the Psychology with Criminology course. Back in Italy I've been privileged to work as a volunteer in the pediatrics ward of my hometown hospital. I've been a student ambassador throughout the 5 years of high school, and I founded a Mental Health Awareness society when I was attending my second year. I would like to take a few initiatives and I shall make sure the work will be done in due time. I also do believe that actions speak louder than words. For instance, If elected I would liaise with the school placement office to increase the support, we receive on the run up to school placement. Additionally, I would encourage the dialog between students and academic staff for instance by creating more review sessions opportunities before exams with not only the presence of workshops but more lectures over the last week of March that will cover past topics. I am discreet and understanding when dealing with sensitive issues, so, students can feel secure to talk regarding any issues. I will furthermore operate an Open-Door Policy to bring student complaints and suggestions forward. Studying modules that draw the focus on individual’s behaviour and the way they perceive the surrounding world one of my key ambition is to raise awareness of wellbeing and diversity topics by creating more platforms for learning (e.g. guest speakers & online resources) and improving on current platforms by advertising clearly and consistently what is available. Representing the department and being able to contribute and engage in meetings and show my critical thinking skills will be an extreme privilege for me since I have an extreme love for my course.
