Candidate for the position of First Year Creative Writing - Rep

Leah Watts

Being a creative and imaginative person, creative writing was the only course I was ever going to do when I came to university. Writing gives me a chance to express myself and tell others about my experiences and adventures and inspire those people to strive for what they want to do.

Having been a part of student councils during primary and secondary school years, I have experience interacting with both students and faculty and encouraging them to come together and discuss issues and find solutions. To me, it’s important that students and faculty shouldn’t feel miles apart from each other but that rather they can come together to enhance and improve both parties experience of their course, and so I would love to make it possible to have regular contact between them.

Even as a first-year student, I’ve noticed that, apart from one module I’ve studied, there have been no opportunities student led workshops, and this is something I’d like to change. I believe that it’s important to have a balance of our faculty giving us knowledge to help us succeed and giving students opportunities to introduce new concepts and ideas to others so they can experiment with in their writing from areas that may not always be focused on in the main curriculum.
