Jordyn Cowell

Hello, my name is Jordyn and I'm a second year student nurse in the adult field!

The one thing that I've
overheard the majority of nursing students say when talking about their course are the following:-

"It's not what I thought it would be."
"It's much more intense."
"I was not prepared for this."

I'm passionate about nursing students not only finishing their course, but loving it whilst they're doing it and that sometimes can't always be the case with certain issues that arise such as spaced out timetables, lack of understanding and support of assignments and modules, placements and the associated problems that can come with it and the list continues.

As your course representative, I can speak on your behalf anonymously for any issues (if these are collective with several nursing students or just your own) and pass these along to the relevant staff members, whether it’s placement team/module leaders and seek answers, amendments and change to hopefully rectify any identified problems or boost suggestions and get your voice heard.

Although my field of practice is Adult and the placements, lectures and content is different for paediatric, mental health and learning disability, I have several colleagues and friends who study in these areas and are able to advise, support and advocate alongside myself if any specific issues should arise in other fields of practice. I have volunteered with Macmillan and hosted learning aid services for children with learning disabilities which has increased my knowledge in other fields of practice also and the difficulty that other FOP's can face with their course.

I’m an approachable, open-minded and understanding person who has experience is being a student ambassador/course ambassador for A-Levels whilst studying at my college.

Studying for a degree in nursing is challenging enough so getting the course
