What is volunteering?
Volunteering roles can be varied, this might be your first time volunteering or you could be very experienced, you can continue doing the same activity you did back home but in the Leicester branch, or you might start an entirely new adventure and get involved because you're passionate about making a difference. You do not need any previous experience to volunteer. Volunteering is any hours spend within the roles that we advertise on the website, volunteering is unpaid.
Volunteering can you help you develop skills and gain new ones. You will also have the chance to get to know the local Leicester community and to meet other volunteers involved through socials and to get involved with out student volunteering committee. There are so many benefits to volunteering that we have put just some of them in a list for you below!

How many hours would i need to volunteer?
You can spend as little or as long as you like volunteering! If you feel you don’t have much time to spare we have plenty of opportunities with low time commitments. We also have volunteer awards, which you can read more about below.
WILL IT COST MONEY TO VOLUNTEER?
Volunteering shouldn’t cost you a penny, check with the host organisation before you start whether or not they can reimburse and travel expenses for example.
How do i log my volunteering hours?
If you log in to the DSU website and head to the volunteer hub, here you will be able to add the projects that you are involved in, the hours you have volunteered and ass to your 'Skills log' which will help you keep track of the skills you are developing whilst volunteering.
WILL I BE RECOGNISED FOR MY VOLUNTEERING?
There are volunteer awards that will show up on your H.E.A.R (Higher Education Achievement Report)
Bronze – up to 49 hours of volunteering
Silver – 50 – 99 hours spent volunteering
Gold – 100 hours or more
CAN I VOLUNTEER ABROAD?
At DSU Volunteering we only advertise local opportunities in and around campus. If you want to volunteer abroad you are best placed to look into #DMUGlobal.
