Welcome to the De Montfort University Politics Society.

Not only do we operate as one of the university's oldest functioning societies, but we also aim to be the most inclusive society at DMU bringing together like minded individuals who have opinions or interests on contemporary current affairs that play a crucial impact on society. We're also keen to increase cross-year/cross-course relationships through the society. We do this by engaging students with a range of activities such as regular debates, socials accustomed to the members desires and a variety of events. This includes talks from relevant figures and engaging community through fundraising, volunteering, protesting and potential campaigns. It is the society's goal to make your year at De Montfort University one that is the place to be for great discussion, enthusiasm, action and furthering your unique student experience!

In our society, we first and foremost ask you to enjoy yourself and engage yourself as much as you can, as long as you feel comfortable. In society events and on our Facebook page/group, we just ask to keep your heads up on our Code of Conduct:

1. To be an active and paying member.
2. To stick to the topic in debates that members have voted upon in online polls, we aim to focus largely on academia led topics.
3. To understand some of your post requests may be rejected if deemed to be unrelated to politics, they contain aggressive language, they make personal attacks on members and if the executive committee feel that the intentions are to 'troll'.
4. To be polite and respectful of the opinions of other members - they are just as valid as your own.

If a member consistently breaks rules of the Code of Conduct either on this page or at meetings the removal of their membership may have to be considered. The membership fee will not be refunded if the Code of Conduct is broken.

The society has both a public Facebook page and a members-only group. If you're not on Facebook, we also have a Twitter page and Instagram, all found using @DMUPoliticsSoc. Feel free to like/follow our pages to keep up to date on society events and gatherings, and feel free to join our Facebook group once you are a member to join/listen in to further political discussion.

To all prospective students, freshers/current students and alumni - Feel free to contact us by email or approach us at the DSU 2017 Freshers Fair! We hope you are all as excited to join in on the fun and share experiences with you as we hope you are.
