The King Power Stadium, home of champions-elect Leicester City, could be staging some raucous celebrations over the next few weeks, although one is likely to be bigger than most – The SULETS DSU Societies Awards 2016 on Wednesday 27 April.

You’ll be transported back in time to the glitz and glamour of 1920s New York with our Great Gatsby-themed evening of entertainment helping recognise the success of our many societies and their members.

Tom Nicholls, Volunteer and Societies Manager at De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU), said: “There are about 4,000 students involved [in DSU], either as committee members or general members in more than 100 different societies.

“It’s a massive celebration, the event to go to if you want to go out with your friends from societies whether it’s just two of you or the whole committee and all the members. Whether you’ve got half a table or five tables reserved, it’s a really, really big night and not to be missed.”

The Volunteering and Societies office has been working in conjunction with the Societies Panel, who have been instrumental in the organising of the event.

Tom said: “It’s ourselves in the office, but also the panel saying well done to everyone, well done to the committee members for putting on and leading these societies, to enable other students to do something different whilst they’re at university. It’s also just a well done to everyone for getting involved.

“It’s the highlight of the year, really, to celebrate everyone’s success and showcase the amazing work that societies do because you probably don’t realise what all of you as a team have achieved.”

Awards handed out on the evening include Best Event, Best Promo, Best Committee, Society Personality of the Year and Society of the Year. Tom added: “Everyone could win something, as everyone does such amazing work. This means a lot.”

Tickets cost £15, including a drink on arrival, a two-course dinner, entertainment, entry into our prize raffle and free entry into the official after party at Injunction.
