Attention all DMU Students!
This article will detail all the elections DSU will be running across the next academic year. They are chances to find the next generation of Student Leaders who will represent YOU, the students, and shape the future of DMU’s student experience. Student Leaders are individuals who represent DMU’s student body on a number of different fronts – from keeping academia the best it can be, chairing debate and keeping DSU up to date, building a community or making real change happen, there’s so many ways to get involved and make DMU better for everyone.
If you think you’d make a good leader, see yourself as someone with leadership qualities or even want to push yourself, now’s the chance to get involved!
Below is a timeline of Elections and the roles on offer:
DSU By-Elections: September – November 2025
After our Student Leadership Elections last year, we will be hosting a By-Election for the vacant roles in the first term of this year. We are recruiting for:
LGBTQ+ Liberation Officer
Student Parents, Carers & Guardians Liberation Officer
Mature Students Liberation Officer
Faculty Lead Rep – Business & Law (Postgraduate)
Faculty Lead Rep – Technology, Arts & Culture (Undergraduate)
The timeline for the By-Elections is as follows:
Nominations Open: 22nd September – 20th October
Voting Open: 27th October – 31st October

Course Rep Elections: October – November 2025
These elections will be facilitated by the staff on your Programme.
Course Reps are volunteers who have the power to change and improve the academic experience of your programme at university. They listen and collate feedback from students on the course and work closely with their Faculty Lead Rep and the Student Voice Leader for Academic Experience to improve the course experience. Student Council Chair & Co-Chair and Scrutiny Panelists: October – November 2025
We are looking for our next Student Council Chair & Co-Chair to help us facilitate Student Council! You will be creating the agenda, chairing debates and voting to enhance the student experience.
Likewise, Scrutiny Panelists will be part of a committee which holds the Student Leaders to account and making sure they are doing what they said they would in their manifestos! You will hold constructive discussions with the panel & the Student Leaders to ensure they are prioritising the students’ interests!
Both of these roles come with the status of NUS Rep – the voice that represents DSU in conversations with the National Union of Students. You’ll be reviewing policies that contribute to the direction of NUS, taking part in NUS Elections and attending a 2 day conference!
To be elected into this role, you must attend the “Student Council Chair & Scrutiny Panel – Chair Training Promotion Workshop” on 10th October as well as the first Student Council on 13th November.
