Farewell to Our Liberation Officers 24/25: Thank You for an Incredible Year! 🌟

As the academic year draws to a close, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our Liberation Officers for your hard work, commitment, and passion throughout the year. You’ve made a lasting impact at DMU — and we couldn't be prouder.

From the very start, you set the tone with the Liberation Celebration, proudly introducing yourselves to the student body and laying the foundation for an incredible year of representation, advocacy, and community.

Throughout the year, each of you led powerful initiatives that reflected the voices and experiences of the communities you represented:

BAME Liberation Officer - Daniel Duke

  • Curated the "Reflection of Identity" art exhibition, providing a powerful space for self-expression.
  • Co-led the Flexible Futures campaign alongside the International Students Officer, focusing on equitable opportunities for international students.
  • Collabed with the welfare officer on Safe to Say, Safe to Share campaign

International Students Liberation Officer - Badhri DURGAPU

  • Partnered on the Flexible Futures campaign.
  • Attended the International Student Employability Symposium, advocating for career support and post-study opportunities.

Mature Students Liberation Officer - Lyn Landon

  • Hosted targeted drop-in sessions to connect with fellow mature students.
  • Conducted research into their experiences to better inform future support.

Disabled Students Liberation Officer - Libs Morris

  • Held drop-ins and launched the Invisible Disabilities Campaign, including a thought-provoking art exhibition.
  • Met with the BBC to spotlight disability representation and accessibility.
  • Introduced a Sensory Tool Kit and hosted an inclusive Open-Air Cinema experience.
  • Will be attending the Women Breaking Barriers Conference alongside the Women’s Officer.

Women’s Liberation Officer - Paige Billings

  • Created a vibrant Women’s Music Night celebrating female artists.
  • Launched the My Period Power campaign, featuring discussion spaces and insightful articles.
  • Represented DMU at the Trans Rights Action Day and spoke on the "She Speaks Health" panel.
  • Winner of our Voice of Change Award
  • Collabed with the welfare officer on Safe to Say, Safe to Share campaign
  • Will be attending the Women Breaking Barriers Conference at the National Space Centre.

Together, you brought to life Wellbeing Wednesday takeovers, ran impactful campaigns, and supported underrepresented students with care, empathy, and drive.

Thank you for volunteering your time and energy to champion inclusion, belonging, and change. Your dedication will go down in DMU history — and your legacy will inspire those who follow in your footsteps.

We wish you all the very best in your next chapters — we have no doubt you’ll go on to do amazing things. 💛
