International Students' Rep Candidate

I am a first-year law student from Pakistan but was living in Northern Ireland. I am currently 18 years old. I am the president of British Red Cross on campus committee in DMU, while also have another role as a first-year rep for the DMU law society. I love to socialise with people and friends. I love to destroy my friends at call of duty! other than I love to know new people and would love to hear from you if you have any questions or any matters which you believe that needs attention regarding my role please don't hesitate to email me or even just generally as I said I love to know new people.

Having lived in the UK for almost a year, I realised that international students at the University are treated in the same manner as home students in terms of studying process, learning resources, available facilities on-/off-campus, various activities/events holding by the Student’s Union. However, there is a huge gap between international and home/EU students in relation to the financial opportunities and support e.g. tuition fees and scholarships. If I am elected for this position I would make sure to provide a convenient and needed environment for each individual international student who studies at DMU, to help solve issues, in which the cultural and linguistic barriers is sometimes crucial to understand and overcome. The Three main things which I aim to achieve during my time in the role is firstly, is to lobby the university to lessen the international student fees and make it as same as it is for the local and EU students. Secondly, To ensure that the voice of the international student is heard while providing a mentoring scheme for the international students. Thirdly, to lobby the university to make available more and more scholarships and financial aid for international students available.
