Love sport? Play in BUCS? Coach or manage a team? Play with Campus330? We're going to be picking one DMU student each week, as our ‘Student in the Spotlight’, to celebrate their successes, achievements and discover a bit more about them!

This week we’re joined by Pedithep ‘Pedi’ Youyuenyoung, a PhD student with a passion for running.

What made you decide to get into running?
I played a lot of sport at home and I wanted to exercise whilst I was at University. I wanted to get into something new, and saw that DMU offered running classes. I decided to go along to both Campus330 sessions for RUN DMU in 2014.

What did you think to RUN DMU classes?
I went to the beginner class and loved it, so decided to go with the intermediate group too. It gave me the opportunity to develop my knowledge of running routes around Leicester, improve my endurance and meet new friends at DMU.

How did you get involved with West End Runners?
West End Runners (WER) is a Running Club based in Leicester, which offers specific coaching for all ages and abilities. Claire Shea Simmonds (RUN DMU instructor) encouraged me to attend these sessions with her in 2014, and each week the distance I ran improved and so did my times. The senior members of WER encouraged me to enter competitions and represent WER.

So what competitions have you entered?
I have been running for two years now and have entered; The Leicester Half Marathon; Rugby Half Marathon; Loughborough Half Marathon and been part of the Leicester Road Running League for 2015.

What is next for you?
I want to step up my training and run a full marathon, at some point!

Thanks Pedi, and good luck from all at DSU!
