These are exciting times for De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU). Building work has already started for the spectacular £3 million overhaul of our home, and it’s just a matter of weeks until we welcome the new executive officers that give you your voice at De Montfort University (DMU).

As we’re getting a shiny new building, we thought it might be time to freshen up the way our brand looks too. Late last year we asked you lovely lot what you thought of our logo, and over 1,500 of you responded.

Almost half of you told us that DSU’s existing logo was not effective, and that our new brand should shout more about student identity and what your students’ union means to you.

From your feedback (and believe us, there was a lot), we came up with some key words that our new brand should represent. Not only did it need to be modern and iconic, but it also needed to have its own personality that was representative of our 22,000 (and growing!) members.

Our exec and staff teams came up with a TONNE of ideas to fit your brief that then got whittled down and presented back to students at a special consultation event, where once again we got you to have your say.

Fortunately for us, there was a clear winner that you all loved! You also gave us a few ideas of how the final design could be tweaked to make it even better, and thanks to you we’ve now got a new logo and brand which shouts about all of the great things your students’ union does, and represents students at DMU better than ever before.

So keep your eyes peeled on Wednesday 20 July for the launch of #YourNewDSU, a new look website, and the full programme of events for #FreshFest16!

And before then, we’ve got a great way to send our old brand packing. But we’ll tell you more about that on Monday...
