African and Caribbean Society - Caribbean Consultant (2 places)

These two new roles have the responsibility of getting a deeper insight into what the respective cultures would expect of ACS throughout the year. This allows an equal distribution of events for both cultures without one suffering negligence and the other receiving more attention.

African and Caribbean Society - Creative Director

• The Creative Director will be in charge of making sure that all ACS events are documented and then published on social media channels and the YouTube channel. • Takes a lead on having a team of Videographers on standby to film and document events. • Takes the lead on editing ACS footage and portraying the society in a positive light through videos and footage

• Ensure that events are scheduled and that everything runs on time • Ensures that preparations for events are carried out, including setting up chairs, equipment etc. • Must assist the Events Officer that all events are carried out professionally according to DSU regulations

• Take the lead on ensuring they have Promotional teams to increase awareness of all events • Works under the leadership of the Publicity Officer • MUST be an active Social Media user on the main Social Media apps (Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat)

• Responsible for managing lists of all members and the email accounts/lists • Take minutes from all committee meetings and the Society Annual General Meeting • Be Responsible for Room Bookings • Organize transport to events • Keep the information on the DSU Website up to date. • Run the Social Media Accounts

• Leads in organizing all sports related events for both male and female sports • Liaises with other ACS’ to collaborate on Sporting events • MAKE SURE DMU ACS WINS • Source transport for Sports games • Looks after Sports equipment

African and Caribbean Society - Treasurer

• Complete the society budget and ensure it is adhered to. • Ensure that members pay their fees on the DSU Website. • Be responsible for logging all ingoing and outgoing payments. • Ensure that committee members or society members get their reimbursements from the society’s self-funding account • Be responsible for seeking external sponsorship. To be done with a committee member who is responsible for the area where the sponsorship goes

Treasurer Duties 

  • Keep track of the group’s account balance 

  • Plan how much money will be needed for your society’s activities across the year 

  • Plan and support fundraising activities – for example, collecting money from a bake sale and organising for the payment to be sent to a charity 

  • Approve reimbursement requests for other committee members if they have spent their own money for the society 

  • Understand the SU’s timelines for funding, reimbursements etc. and be confident to explain the rules to other committee members 

  • Only allow society money to be spent on items or activities that will develop the society as a whole 

  • Keep track of your society’s members list and check that your regular attendees are registered members of your group 

  • Apply for additional funding from the Development Fund and/or other sources, as and when needed 

  • Organise sponsorships and/or affiliations between your society and external organisations, as and when needed 

 

Whole Committee Duties? 

All committee members will be expected to do the following, on top of their individual duties:? 

  • Work as a team to plan society activity for the year ahead? 

  • Promote your society amongst the wider student body? 

  • Attend Committee meetings in person, where possible and send apologies if you can’t attend? 

  • Outline your society’s aims for the year and actively work towards achieving them 

  • Attend Committee Catch Up meetings with your allocated Student Opportunities Coordinator as and when requested (minimum of twice per academic year)? 

  • Signpost members to wellbeing and support services available to them at DMU, as and when needed?

• Takes the lead in supporting the Chairperson in ensuring that all committee members are carrying out their tasks efficiently in accordance with DSU regulations • Takes the lead in the absence of the Chairperson • Takes on the role of absent committee members or members who cannot carry out their roles

• Attend any Health and Safety Training that is offered • Attend the First Aid Training and be the trained first Aider on all events • Ensure that all Risk Assessments and Health and Safety procedures are followed • Ensure all activities are carried out in a safe manner • Complete any Health and Safety Paperwork as required from the DSU Website
