Hi, my name is Hamida Arif, and. I am an adult nursing student at DMU!
As the NUS reaches its 100th anniversary, it is important that we continue to address the diverse problems we are facing in our student communities. I believe I am the best person to represent the student community at a national level, ensuring, that your voices and opinions are heard.
Among the many causes, I intend to represent, there as some that I find particularly important because they promote inclusivism and inclusivity.
1. Fighting discrimination: tackling discrimination on university campuses. Ensuring that students feel safe, and are able to be themselves without fear of discrimination.
2. Free Palestine: campaigning for the human rights of Palestinian people, holding the university accountable for their monetary contribution towards Palestinian occupation. In regards to this subject, I feel on a very personal level that we should not be biased in our view on the issues which have arisen in other places in the world, but we should make sure we promote safety and inclusion for students and staff.
3. Mental health provisions: Increase funding towards student support networks and student mental health services recognising the impact COVID has had on our mental health, after 18 months of isolation. Campaign for inclusive and culturally aware mental health services that recognise intersectionality in mental health.
