Myself Mohit Lal Mali from India, studying PG International business and entrepreneurship at DMU.
Coming from a diverse country, with various religious beliefs and communities, I have always had a special affection and respect for different cultures and their practices.
I'm contesting for the post of Equality and Diversity officer for the DMU elections in March 2022. I understand the responsibilities of the post and I am really interested to support the students in the upliftment of different cultures and communities. I believe hailing from a diverse background myself provides me an edge over to understand similar views and beliefs.
I would try to amend in the following aspects -
- Make the classes more interactive wherein all the students would have a platform to make their contributions.
- Giving everyone an equal platform to express their views and opinions.
- Advocate and represent the ethnic minority communities, the LGBTQIA+ and all those affecting any discrimination on disability, race, religion, age.
- I will strive my best to raise awareness on equality issues and furthering essential changes.
- I plan to conduct cultural week celebrations each month so that students can mingle and foster their interest for different cultures.
- The most challenging part for students might be to speak about the equality discrimination they have faced. To help them, I can ensure a hotline service accessible 24/7.
- A blog would be made accessible to everyone who wants to speak out about their concerns related to equality and diversity issues and it would also have an anonymous option.
I assure to abide by the promises I have given and will be true to my words and efforts to create a SAFER, BETTER and HEALTHIER community in campus.
