Throughout my academic experiences at DMU, I've aimed to benefit and improve student life. The reason I want to be a Course Rep is motivated mainly to raise awareness of our issues to departmental and faculty leaders, as well as lecturers and tutors. You, as a student, may not be keen on having their voice heard, yet you may have an extraordinary idea for our Law School or an issue that needs to be resolved. This is why I want to act as your point of contact between you and staff – to ensure your voice is heard and represented.
My experiences mark me out as qualified candidate to be your Course Representative.
Firstly, I was First Year Representative for StreetLaw during first year where I raised issues for first year members and I was driven greatly to ensure their experiences with StreetLaw complimented their studies. This role was one of representation, representing the views of others and ensuring that people feel they have a point of connection on all matters.
Secondly, during this academic year – my second year – I serve as Chairperson of StreetLaw. This year, StreetLaw has research, developed and delivered three projects – compared to one in the previous year. As this may be interpreted, I aim to improve year-on-year.
If I’m elected, I will: keep in regular contact; inform you on progress made; and, inform you on how staff respond to your needs.
Above all, being a Representative isn’t just be about representing the issues students face, for me, it would also be about encouraging students to acknowledge good teaching practice. This is because our relationship with staff is paramount for all our experiences. Thus, it is vital staff are made aware of things they do
